A Simple Misunderstanding went on a journey to arrive at its final form. The show started as a covid creation without a clear goal. Just playtime in a studio throwing around words and moves and props and costumes, which culminated in a live showing of a 25min piece in the spring of 2021 to a limited audience. Next we presented at Gothenburg Fringe 2021 with a similar 45min show. In spring of 2022, Gothenburg Fringe gave us the opportunity to work on a prolongation of the show which actually became a prologue to A Simple Misunderstanding which was called The Night Before A Simple Misunderstanding. This show existed in the same apartment, with the same couple, in the same timeline, and introduced the audience to the seed of tension that was planted "the night before". Finally, in the summer of 2023 we presented the full, hour-long show at Reykjavik Fringe, which tied together all of the material from the ASM Universe. This show is painfully relatable in its portrayal of the everyday life of an everyday couple going through their everyday issues that result in an everyday breakup. The best feedback we've received during the run of the show thus far has been from a woman in the back of the bar who whispered loudly under her breath "God he's such an asshole". Thank you. We take this to heart.
